The ideal candidate must be willing to travel throughout eastern Canada.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Signals Manager – East, the Project Manager is responsible for providing overall direction for one or more projects and or supporting the development of new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical location and or product line.

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, direct and manage all activities of all assigned projects at different stages of completion, to ensure that company objectives for customer satisfaction, safety, quality, production, revenue, and profit are met within a specific time frame
  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its core values
  • Plan, organize and staff key field positions through operation department heads or subordinate project/construction managers
  • Responsible and accountable for the project management system, tools and personnel for all assigned projects from the time a project is received through the final payment of closed projects
  • Administer internal project meetings with the superintendents, field engineers, and appropriate subcontracts to make necessary changes and finalize the work schedule
  • Attend the customer’s Pre-Construction Meeting and ensures necessary staff and sub-contractors attend
  • The Project Manager will procure critical Project Documents (necessary permits, submittals, sub-contractor insurance requirements) required by the specifications or client and acquire fully executed contracts from customers and sub-contractors
  • Develop and implement Quality Management Plans, Safety Management Plans, Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Manufacturing, and Construction plans as required to meet project objective
  • Monitor projects daily and record production and job costs into the project management system
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company’s interest, ensure profitability, and maintain good client relationships. Develops and submits corporate reporting within deadlines.
  • prepare weekly and monthly Project Progress Reports as required
  • identify changes in the scope of work to determine if there is an opportunity or need to submit a Change Order Request to the customer
  • Facilitate and execute all Change Orders with the customer
  • Verify and record committed and actual job costs into the project management system daily
  • Complete a Project Closeout Report to identify final changes in work scope, additional revenue opportunities, punch list items and any hindrances that may delay close out and final payment.
  • Submit invoices and collect payments from the customer as necessary
  • Provides strong leadership to construction team members, capitalizing on individual and group strengths
  • Update and maintain customer/contact database for all contacts associated with any project, existing customers, sub-contractors, prime contractors or any other parties that may influence or impact A& B Rail Services success
  • May perform other related duties as required.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of method of bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting, cash flow, expediting, receiving and transporting
  • A track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships with clients, owners, and consultant.
  • Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs, investigate the underlying causes and identify short and long-term solutions
  • Ability to plan and manage a project schedule
  • Contract negotiation/management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust to a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrate ability to perform maturely and professionally ensuring complete confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically, act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems, and make decisions

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field; or 6+ years related experience without a degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the construction/industrial industry
  • Signals and Communications construction experience is an asset

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for managing and delivering activities, tasks, and projects. The Project Coordinator will work with the project team (other Project Coordinators, Superintendents, and Manager) to deliver and execute the project plan and ensure project deliverables are met.

 

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in managing activities of multiple projects at different stages of completion, while providing ongoing communication to the project team
  • Work with the Project Team to support the Company’s commitment to safety and its core values as well as meeting the company’s objectives
  • Work with Project Team to obtain Critical Project Documents (necessary permits, submittals, sub-contractor documentation) required by the contract specifications or client 
  • The Project Coordinator will monitor project activates and tasks and record production and job costs into the project management system; as well as, providing project progress reports as required
  • Identify resource requirements, set expectations (provide direction) and monitor progress
  • Identify any issues and/ or changes in the scope of work to determine if there is an opportunity or need to submit a Change Order Request to the customer.
  • Assisting in the coordination and delivery for project activities and project performance; which can include, completing a Project Close out Report to identify final changes in work scope, additional revenue opportunities, punch list items and any hindrances that may delay close out and final payment

  • Manage employee accommodations, inputting of employee hours into time sheet system, responsible for qualification compliance of employees on a specific project, management of materials and consumables at the job site
  • First review of Safety/Equipment documentation for a specific project
  • Maintaining the project repository on the network. Responsible for the management of controlled documents and perform other related duties, as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

  • Must be willing to work away from home on an as per project basis

MAIN PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Chief Estimator & Signals Manager- East, the Estimator, is responsible for overseeing a full range of contract management, compliance review and risk mitigation and that all procurement activities are properly planned, managed and implemented in accordance with the client work instructions and the needs of the client and the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare contract bids for Management review which includes estimating and bid breakdowns
  • Manage supplier relationship to the company’s advantage; conduct negotiation with suppliers covering the scope covered by A&B Rail Services procurement policies
  • Responsible and available for project managers, for all assigned projects from the time a project is received through the final payment of closed projects
  • Procure critical project documents (necessary permits, submittals, sub-contractor insurance requirements) required by the specifications or client 
  • Identify changes in the scope of work to determine if there is a requirement to submit a Change Order Request to the client  
  • Assists in ensuring that all purchase orders and contracts are executed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, taking full consideration of the contractual terms and conditions relative to the prime contract
  • Update and maintain customer/contact database for all contacts associated with any project, existing customers, sub-contractors, prime contractors or any other parties that may influence or impact the businesses success
  • Attend Bidder meetings
  • Maintain divisional backlog reports
  • Be available to project managers
  • Maintain divisional capacity schedule
  • Create and maintain SOPs relevant to their area of expertise
  • May perform other related duties as required

Key Responsibilities :

The Tamper Operator will be reporting to the manager and will be responsible for operating heavy equipment in an efficient, safe and appropriate manner. The Tamper Operator must also ensure compliance with governed regulations, conduct daily inspections and ensure minor repairs are also completed. The Tamper Operator will also be ensuring safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public and the assets of the company and following procedures and policies set out by the company. The operator will also need to be able to communicate effectively over radio following CTC standards. Other duties include daily administration of log books, job briefings and assisting in any manual labor when necessary.

General Purpose:

The Superintendent is responsible for managing and leading a team of workers and foremen to deliver a project. The Superintendent shall ensure that the security, quality, profitability and planning meets the customer’s expectations.  Along with these duties, the Superintendent will be managing requirements and the equipment necessary for the implementation of the project. As well, this role will supervise the construction from the start and monitor the progress of the work on the site. Other duties include planning work schedules, monitoring the quality of the work executed, ensure that contractual obligations are met and making sure the project is running smoothly. The Superintendent will also ensure that the occupational safety and health regulations are respected and enforced, as per company policies.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or in a similar position
  • Valid Certification in the Canadian rail operating rules (CROR)
  • Valid training in First Aid, SIMDUT, Confined Space, and other courses according to the needs
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Client
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good leadership skills
  • Exercise good judgment and give clear guidance
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Valid “Class 5” Driver’s License

A&B Rail is seeking a qualified Project Coordinator to join our Ontario Project Team. Reporting to the Project Manager located in Bolton, ON with most time being spent in the GTA.

This is a permanent position with potential to grow.

General Purpose:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of a variety of administrative tasks required to support the needs of the project teams, vendors and subcontractors. The position requires a strong team player with excellent communication, organizational and planning skills with initiative and the ability to work independently and juggle multiple deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Project Manager to establish a cost reporting system for all project components, including excavation, backfill, formwork, rebar, concrete, embedded metals and underground piping.
  • Monitor daily, weekly and monthly labor, equipment, material and sub-trade costs.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule with the assistance of the Project Manager.
  • Control drawings, drawing records, and revisions.
  • Ensure that all technical aspects of the work conform to all applicable codes and standards.
  • Ensure that all work is completed accurately (i.e. survey).
  • Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions such as photocopying, filing, faxing and preparing and distributing correspondence
  • Maintains and updates various contact and distribution lists for the department or project
  • Obtain and provides written documentation for all clarifications and instructions, attends all regular meetings.
  • Assist and monitors payroll functions to ensure proper coding and cost allocation.
  • Assist with preparing progress invoicing and progress status reports.
  • Complete estimates review estimates and assists in costing.
  • Assists in maintaining systems and procedures including set up and maintenance of master filing system, project billings, cost accounting system, and project directory
  • Assists in contacting trades and suppliers, regarding invitations, pricing, addenda and tender/bid closings
  • Carries out a wide range of diverse, sensitive, operational and technical duties within the department
  • Participates in meetings and records minutes
  • Ensures all internal controls, processes and procedures are followed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 Job Requirements:

  • A Diploma/ Civil Tech College Diploma – Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in a construction environment is preferable
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Experienced in taking and transcribing meeting minutes
  • Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated customer service focus
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust to a rapidly changing environment
  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality
  • Railroad experience would be an asset

At A&B Rail Services, we are currently seeking a Project Manager who will report to the Regional Operations Manager- Ontario. The Project Manager is responsible for providing overall direction for one or more projects and or supporting the development of new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical location and or product line. They will need to plan, direct and manage all activities of all assigned projects at different stages of completion, to ensure that company objectives for customer satisfaction, safety, quality, production, revenue, and profit are met within a specific time frame. The individual will need to actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its core values. Develop and implement Quality Management Plans, Safety Management Plans, Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Manufacturing, and Construction plans as required to meet project objective. Provide strong leadership to construction team members, capitalizing on individual and group strengths as well as perform other related duties as required

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field; or 6+ years related experience without a degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the construction/industrial industry
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to plan and manage a project schedule
  • Understanding of method of bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting, cash flow, expediting, receiving and transporting
  • A track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships with clients, owners, and consultant.
  • Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs, investigate the underlying causes and identify short and long-term solutions
  • Contract negotiation/management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust to a rapidly changing environment
