The Project

A&B Rail Services was hired to construct siding extensions for Canadian National Rails network running from Prince George to Prince Rupert and north towards Mackenzie British Columbia.

 

Deliverables:

Tacheeda

  • 3500 feet of class 2 track
  • Re-align mainline turnout
  • Remove 2 #8 turnouts
  • Removal and relocate mainline #12 turnout
  • Placement of ballast, surface and destress

McEwan

  • Re-build #12 mainline turnout
  • Remove and relocate mainline #12 mainline turnout
  • construct 3200 lineal track feet of class 2 track
  • place ballast surface and destress

Caribou

  • Remove mainline #12 turnout
  • Construct and install mainline #12 turnout
  • Construct 8000 lineal feet of class 1 track
  • Construct 3000 lineal feet of class 2 track
  • Place ballast surface and destress

Robin Creek

  • Install new #12 panelized turnout
  • Install new mainline #12 point pack
  • Remove 1200 feet of class 3 track
  • Construct #8 turnout and 800 feet of class 3 track
  • Construct 7500 lineal feet of class 2 track
  • Place ballast, surface and destress

Morris Town

  • Remove #12 mainline turnout
  • Install panelized #12 turnout
  • Re-align 1000 feet of track
  • Construct 6500 lineal feet of class 2 track
  • Install #12 mainline point pack
  • Place ballast, surface and destress

Kain

  • Construct 14000 lineal feet of class 2 track
  • Install a set of #12 crossover turnouts
  • Install two panelized #12 mainline turnouts
  • Place ballast, surface and destress

 

The Result

There were a number of significant challenges which came up during these projects that A&B Rail Services was able to overcome. A significant one being track blocks that were time sensitive to ensure there were no disruptions to CN Rail’s regular service. A&B Rail Services was able to accomplish this thanks to our dedicated and experienced crews that specialize in main line construction who were able to utilize our fleet of top-of-the-line rail speciality equipment.
