The Result

A satisfied client and another quality project completed. This multi-faceted project is a prime example of A&B Rail Services’ expertise, capabilities, and commitment to Doing It Right. There were many challenges facing the A&B Rail team throughout the course of this ten month project. All grading, cabling, fiber relocation, and enabling works had to be performed during the winter and spring months, when weather conditions were less than favorable for much of the time. In addition to this, there were tight time restraints put on the crews. Work blocks were limited to 4 to 5 hours per night during nonrevenue service. Also, the city temporarily discontinued train services for nine days to give the crews access to the area to complete all of the track and signal rehabilitation work. Due to site confines and restricted access there was no opportunity to prebuild any turnout components. A great number of crew members and equipment had to occupy and perform multiple tasks simultaneously in close proximity, working around the clock. All planning, scheduling and coordination leading up to the critical outage, needed to be precise and well thought through in order to ensure a positive outcome. For the City of Ottawa’s Trillium Line, the successful completion of this project means increased efficiencies in the performance of their commuter train services. For A&B Rail Services, it means another satisfied customer in our 50-year journey to become Canada’s largest, most experienced, and most sought-after rail services company.
