The Project

A&B Rail was mandated by Rio Tinto, owner of the Quebec North Shore & Labrador Railway, to perform the annual track replacement program along their 260-mile railway for a period of five years (2015-2019) and is currently ongoing into the 2021 season. The annual maintenance includes rail replacement & recuperation, tie replacement, thermite welding, track surfacing, and work on their automated train operated railway at their mine site in Labrador city during their annual shutdown period.

 

Deliverables:

  • Annual replacement of 126,720 linear feet of continuous welded rail
  • Annual replacement of 23,000 cross-ties
  • Annual execution of 1,000 thermite welds
  • Annual surfacing of 65 track miles
  • Removal & installation of track during annual shutdown period
